MATTESON, IL – The Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter (JASSAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in conjunction with Jassac Charitable Foundation, Inc. hosts its 7th Annual Crimson & Cream Pageant on Saturday, April 2nd at 4pm. This year’s event is being held at Victory Apostolic Church, located 20801 Matteson Ave. in Matteson, IL. Contestants and escorts range in age from 5-13 years old, with the young ladies competing for titles in three categories: Little Miss Crimson & Cream (ages 5-7 years); Jr. Miss Crimson & Cream (8-10 years); Miss Crimson & Cream (11-13 years).
Twenty-five south suburban communities are being represented in this year’s pageant. Throughout the last five months of preparation, the contestants enhanced their personal communication, social development, and leadership skills. They participated in many developmental workshops, including etiquette training and a financial savings workshop. One of the highlights of their session was a community service project, Teens for Jeans, where contestants donated jeans to homeless and domestic violence shelters. This event allowed our participants to understand the value of giving back and the power of paying it forward!
JASSAC President, Kimberly Rowe-Barney says, “This event is a staple in our organization, positively affecting young girls, boys and their parents by providing an opportunity for participants to gain new relationships, cultivate leadership skills and engage in public service activities which we hope will continue in years to come.”
Winners in each category will receive $1,000, with the runner-ups each receiving $350. The winners are determined based on the highest amount of ad-book dollars raised and tickets sold per contestant. Escorts are also competing for recognition and the winner will receive a trophy based on how much they are able to sell in ads and tickets. Tickets are on sale now for the Crimson & Cream Pageant for $30 and will not be sold at the door. For more information on purchasing tickets, contact LaToya King at email@example.com or Carolyn Hall at firstname.lastname@example.org.
